First Chestnut Beer

First chestnut beer, first Hideji, hopefully not my last. Was expecting an overwhelming but flavor but delivers layers of flavors (chocolate and brown sugar). I bought two and it will be fun to see what a year does to this thing.

Rare and Special Japanese Craft Beer

Luscious nose of powdery cocoa, licorice, and a hint of chestnut. Taking a sip, the beer is full in body and wonderfully full of cocoa powder, caramel, roasty espresso, sweet brown sugar, and a hint of dark chocolate. The beer finishes with a very warming alcohol finish and a subtle hint of chestnut pokes through again. The chestnut is light here and to be truthful adds only a bit to the overall experience. Chestnut is light in flavor after all but does have a unique flavor, and I get some of that here. Would I buy it again? Absolutely I would. This is, after all, the only brew from Hideji Beer you can buy in the USA.

Amazing Beer

Honestly don’t know how to accurately discribe the taste other than delicious. If your looking for a Guinness Stout you will likely think it’s a bit sweet and foo foo. If your looking for a dessert beer you will likely feel it’s a bit bold and not sweet enough. That said, if you like a strong stout with flavors resembling coffee, and notes of chocolate with a creamy smooth texture that has a great bite... Well, I believe you found it, and it is truly delicious.
