What is an Oktoberfest, anyway? Well… lots of things. When talking about this style, the biggest thing to mention is country of origin. While traditional German Oktoberfests (sometimes calls Märzens) are generally lighter, clearer and crisper (think: the Hoffbräuhaus variety), American Oktoberfests tend to be more amber, toasty and malty. Don’t be surprised to find a herbiness there either.
So, which is better? It’s a matter a preference, but most people consider each sub-style an indispensible part of their drinking calendars.
